Whilst I think the PS4 will be a successful product for Sony I don't think it's going to dominate the market in the same way as the PS2. Games consoles are not known for high returns until mid to late cycle.
It's a market being eroded by completion of other consoles and mobile devices which again doesn't present a great hope of reversing Sonys financial issues.

Agree with most of that but I dont think you will get a free online as MS have proved that millions will pay for it = steady revenue stream.

Sony cant copy Kinect directly as MS has loads of patents but its obviously designed to do a similar job although im not sure on the design.

For gods sake I'm not 5. I do understand how memory and bus speed work. I'm talking about the end bandwidth between the parts which is most important at the end of the day. The ps4s memory bandwidth sounds like its unrestricted to the potential of the gddr5 but it's the bandwidth to the bus and GPU that's important.
The EDram solution isn't as good but it can make up for the slower speed to ddr3 by having buffer memory and it's own high speed interconn...
I don't think the hardware will be able to emulate a 3.2ghz cell along with the ppu,spu complexities.
8 core amd is great but it's not related architecture.
My bet is a streamed solution using that clever video decoder chip they mentioned.

MS is rumoured to use the super fast ED ram as a buffer cache for their slightly slower ram so the difference between the machines might not be that different.

I'd rather they just say its not ready and show a dev kit running software rather than some bollocks about the controller being the most important part. Yes it is key but the whole package is what we expected to see.
They could even have shown renders of The final design if the boxes weren't ready. There would have been no harm.

I like the idea of a do it all box that is games console, pvr and media player... but as a gamer I need it to do the big games first and do them as well as, or better than, the competition. This is the key point. If MS stray from this guiding principle then they might make inroads into the living room for media but they will lose a lot of gamers, myself included.
As a UK gamer I use my Xbox for games 99% and BBC iplayer/Sky Go 1%. That's not going to change.
I would have enjoyed the game a lot more if it bore a full resemblance in quality, effects and content to what was shown to us in the demo footage and other media. The game would have got great reviews 4 years ago but things have moved on and this title does not have the sheen and polish of features that are standard in today's titles. It reeks of last minute and feels cobbled together.

I really wouldn't read too much into this at this stage.
The portion of the game we saw is only a level demo I would guess. Also PS3 used a lot of texture streaming to allow the devs to work beyond the ram limitation.
Its safe to assume that the streaming wasnt needed for this demo hence the higher mem usage.
Im curious to what the final OS footprint will be. How much ram will be available in reality....
